How do you check screen time on Android?
Android does not call it Screen Time. Google’s name for the feature is Digital Wellbeing, and it lives in the Settings app on Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, and most other Android phones. The labels move a little between brands and versions. The numbers are in the same place.
Where is screen time on Android?
Google’s Android Help page gives the base path: open Settings, tap Digital Wellbeing, and read the chart. Google also says some steps vary by device. On many phones the menu reads Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
The first time you open it, you may need to set up a profile. Google’s path for that is Settings, then Digital Wellbeing, then More, then Manage your data.
Want an icon instead of a menu? Open Digital Wellbeing and turn on Show icon in the app list.
How do you check screen time on a Pixel?
- Open Settings.
- Tap Digital Wellbeing.
- The chart shows today. Tap it for the detail view.
Google’s Pixel Help page lists three stats behind that chart:
- Screen time: which apps you’ve had on screen, and for how long.
- Times opened: how often you unlocked the phone and opened certain apps.
- Notifications received: how many notifications came in, and from which apps.
Tap any app in the list for its own history. Chrome goes one level deeper. Tap Chrome, then Show sites, and you get time per website for each day.
How-To Geek’s walkthrough shows the Pixel detail view as a bar graph for the week, with your most used apps listed under it.
How do you check screen time on a Samsung Galaxy?
Samsung’s US support page puts it in the same spot: Settings, then Digital Wellbeing. Samsung says it shows your overall usage, time per app, notifications received, and how many times you unlocked the phone.
For the week, tap the Weekly report icon in the top right corner. Samsung describes it as four vertical lines. That screen shows your daily average screen time and the apps you used most that week.
Samsung also has a built-in Screen time goal. Tap Set goal under Screen time goal, pick hours and minutes, and the tracker shows how each day stacks up against it.
Samsung notes that screens vary by carrier, software version, and model, and that these features need Android 10 or later. On other Android brands, look for the same words in Settings, or type “Digital Wellbeing” into the Settings search bar.
Is there a faster way to see it?
Yes. Google offers a screen time widget that shows your top 3 apps each day. On Android 9 and later, touch and hold the Home screen, tap Widgets, then drag the screen time widget into place. The number is on your Home screen before you open anything.
What do the Android numbers actually count?
Read Google’s wording closely. Screen time is “what apps you’ve had on screen and for how long.” Times opened counts unlocks and app opens. Those are two different stats. One tells you how long. The other tells you how often.
So Android’s headline number is on-screen app time. By that definition, a podcast playing with the screen off is not an app on screen. For the full breakdown across Android and iPhone, see what counts as screen time.
How should you read a full week?
One day is noise. A long train ride makes a Tuesday look loud. Look at the week instead: the Samsung weekly report gives you a daily average, and the Pixel detail view gives you the week as bars.
Then find the leader. Most weeks have one app well ahead of the rest. That app is where the minutes went, and it is where a lower total comes from.
Android’s built-in brake is App timers. Go to Settings, then Digital Wellbeing, then App timers, and tap Set timer next to an app. Google says timers reset at midnight. When time runs out, the app closes and its icon dims.
Does Android screen time match iPhone Screen Time?
Not exactly. Both platforms show per-app time, a count of how often you reach for the phone, and notifications. The labels and rules differ. Android says Times opened. iPhone says Pickups. Apple’s Screen Time can also combine an iPhone, iPad, and Mac on one Apple Account when Share Across Devices is on, per Apple’s iPhone User Guide.
Comparing with a friend on the other platform? Compare weekly totals over the same Monday to Sunday, not a single day. If an iPhone number looks off, start with why your iPhone screen time looks wrong.
